Reminder: there are still free channels available with the use of an antenna.
For example, Oshawa has CHEX TV available. CHEX is a local CTV station.
The CRTC has listed all the free TV options in each province

We cut cable long ago once we couldn't use our DVR and rather had to use their pay per month one. I'm a huge believer in the fact that I shouldn't have to a) pay for a cable box because I absolutely need it to be your customer, what choice do I get?! and b) I shouldn't have to PAY for you to install your services at my home that I am just going to be paying you monthly for! Additionally I hate contracts, so much can happen in 2-3 years.
I stream stuff over the net which has far more selection then TV would and DH uses our local public library for his TV addiction. He has found loads of great TV series he would have never known about otherwise. We also have an antenna but where we live we only get the one local news station and the signal is pretty weak no matter where we put the antenna and which ones we used (we tried several in the beginning). That being said my grandparents can get 4-6 OTA channels with their antenna at the cottage which is an hour north of us and 3-4 hours east of us.
The $25 package is interesting as is Netflix and Shomi that I've considered but like most purchases I lack the impulse to jump ahead with any of these products and so far we've been just fineInsert Clever Signature Here

Local Hamilton paper indicated that the $25 Bell TV Starter package has no US stations.
But experts say Bell's stripped-down deal — devoid of U.S. channels — seems to veer further from the spirit of the new regulations than other carriers and changes little for most consumers, despite the CRTC's aim "to give Canadians more choice." That choice is "things that we've never heard of," said Dwayne Winseck, a professor at Carleton University's School of Journalism and Communication.
Winseck noted the absence of American broadcast stalwarts like ABC, NBC and CBS, included in basic Canadian TV packages for decades.
"They're working to give it a stillbirth," he said of the rollout, calling it "retrograde," "begrudging" and "behind 1970s standards."
Last year, the CRTC laid out requirements — effective Tuesday — for a "skinny basic" package that features predominantly local and regional programming as an alternative to "big, unwieldy and expensive" bundles, CRTC chair Jean-Pierre Blais said last March.
The basic grouping must include those on CRTC's mandatory distribution list, like CBC, CTV and Global, as well as public interest stations such as CPAC and minority French- or English-language channels.
It may also include affiliates of U.S. networks, though their inclusion is not mandated. Pick-and-pay for standalone channels must be available later this year.2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.

Both BELL and ROGERS are trying really hard to not promote this plan at all. Plus to discourage, disuade and prevent people from getting it. They are trying to put as many obstacles, terms & conditions in their way to prevent them from going for it.
They are not doing it in the right spirit and the way it was intended to be.

They are almost penalising people for going for it. The way they are trying to design it is that if someone goes for it, he will end up paying the SAME as before or even MORE than before
If someone goes for it, then they are almost removing discounts elsewhere and tacking rental fees and penalties and cancellation fees , somewhere else. So giving with one hand & taking the same with another hand.
CRTC is a toothless & worthless watchdog which can't touch the oligarchy of Rogers, Bell & Shaw. Wouldn't be surprised if lot of former and retired executives from these firms are now sitting on the board of the CRTC. They are too chummy with each other. Just an eyewash to show they care about consumers and there is some competition, when the reality is that there is none.

Rogers CEO is quoted as saying the skinny cable package is your grandmother's cable package.
http://www.thestar.com/business/2016...-ceo-says.html
Why not say it's the package that seniors may enjoy best? Gender-neutral wording would have been better.
Or say it's your grandfather's cable package...2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.

What a weird comment to make.
We literally watch 2 channels (CH) for morning news (6am - 6:30am), and Disney JR.
WE had to pay $24.99 (starter basic), plus $5 (kids package), $7.49 for having more than 1 TV.
In addition our internet we were paying $47.99(Extreme 16 unlimited), but since Rogers bought out Source and we are losing our discount we will be getting Internet 30 unlimited $60.99
$38 is a lot for 2 channels...

If by CH , you mean CHCH you can easily get that for free with an OTA - Over The Air both indoor or outdoor good quality antenna.
I bought a TERK HDTV Amplified TV indoor Antenna for only $ 39.99 from The Source, when it was on sale. I get 12 free channels , CHCH is one of them.
Disney Jr. is a different thing, maybe you can stream it or something with Netflix, Roku , Google Chromecast, Hulu or something.
Try other smaller third party internet providers like Teksavvy, Distributel etc. I only pay $ 41 ( All Inclusive ) for unlimited high speed internet with Distribute. Good download and upload speeds.
