Such a tragedy. And such a mystery as to why this flight from Barcelona ended so tragically in the French Alps, killing all 150 on board. Hopefully the flight data recorder will provide some insight into why that aircraft went down although speculations abound on news channels. One mystery is why the plane continued on a straight path in an emergency situation for over 100km when an airport that they could have used was only 30km south of their path. Others are speculating on a piece of equipment that's meant to bring the nose of the plane down if it detects it to be heading at an unusual upward angle...perhaps it malfunctioned?
Whatever happened, has left so many in mourning, particularly parents of the 16 teenagers on board, returning home from an exchange program with their teachers.
I sincerely hope the "why" of this crash can be resolved....This thread is currently associated with: N/A

Truly very sad. Prayers for all the families - it's going to be a while before all IDs will be made, making it even harder.

I tried not to take it all in ( like watching every channel ) because I knew it was not a rescue mission but a recovery one. That is never easy to hear. Eventually we may get come reason why this happened, but the families of those that perished will probably not find comfort either way.

It truly is sad. Something went horribly wrong during that flight. Why there was no communication between the aircraft and air traffic control is a huge mystery, the black box should shred some some light into what happened.

OMG! This is so sad. Whatever they get to know from black boxes, it still can't bring back those people. I pray not only for victims but for their families too.

Well this story is strange. If true then why would the pilot in side not answer. Incapacitated or suicide?

Co-pilot appears to have deliberately crashed the plane
The co-pilot of the German airliner that crashed in the southern French Alps apparently locked the chief pilot out of the cockpit and caused the plane to crash, as passengers could be heard screaming, a French prosecutor said Thursday.
The co-pilot of Germanwings Flight 4U9525, identified as a 28-year-old German national named Andreas Lubitz, appeared to want to "destroy the plane," Marseille prosecutor Brice Robin said. The co-pilot was breathing and alive until the plane hit the ground, Robin said.

What I don't understand is did not someone on the aircraft have a cell phone to call someone and tell them what was going on, there seemed to be enough time to do that. It is very scary something like this could happen.

The passengers did not realize the pilot was flying into the Alps until the last final moments. When you're overcome by horror, you cannot think rationally. Screaming is probably the only logical thing to do.

Even if the pilot had spoken to someone, what could they have done? There was no way for anyone on the ground to stop the plane if the co pilot was careening it into a mountain.

(Co-pilot) Andreas Guenter Lubitz was 27 years old. He was from Montabaur, a German town about 80 kilometres northwest of Frankfurt.
On Thursday, French authorities said Lubitz, a German national, had never been flagged as a terrorist. Prosecutor Brice Robin declined to discuss the co-pilot’s religion or ethnic background. German authorities are in charge of the investigation into the Lubitz.
