what gets me is a few years ago they closed a number of best buy stores and kept open the future shop locations... now they are closing all future shop and transitioning a number of them into best buys..
i completely agree they don't need two stores opened by the same company selling the same product sharing the same complex and with best buy having a better overall reputation i an see why they prefer that name over the future shop nameWhen life hands you Edward Cullen...throw him back and demand Eric Northman....

I heard that news too this a.m. and I kept thinking when was the last tine I went into a Future Shop?? This was all my fault! No seriously, I give them credit for at least meshing some of the stores with BB, although does that mean all former FS employees are let go or do they have a chance to work in the BB that their store is joining up with?

Our Future Shop closed the end of January. It is not being converted to a Best Buy. We have one Best Buy not far away from where the Future Shop was so they decided to just close. They gave very little warning (I think it was about a week from notice until the doors were closed for good).
Stores seem to be really hurting right now. Beyond Target and Future Shop, my community has also lost a comic book store, a movie rental store, a toy store and a flower shop all within a 2 month span (all were locally owned and operated). More are rumoured to close. That's just my local community, not the overall city.

It's understandable as to why - but surely not the way this was done.
I know they are the same company, but much preferred FS over BB - just got two orders from FS online this week.
Our FS will turn into another BB. Location-wise, they are across the city from one another.

In the article an employee was quoted as saying the severance they are getting is above industry standand so at least that's something. Any way I'm off in a bit for the Timmins comedy festival to see Mike Macdonald. Bought the ticket months ago when I actually had money.

Not happy with this announcement, we have a Best Buy and Future Shop and we always got way better service from Future Shop and they were always better if you had to return something. A nasty shock this morning for all the people losing their jobs

they could of at the very least given staff a heads up... last time when best buy closed the staff showed up to work with the doors locked (and i'm guessing they did similar again) and now they show up again for the doors to be shut with half the locations being closed for good (or else being forced to take a week vacation with most likely no pay as they change over the store)

Stocks and prices in both stores are basically the same. However, there's huge difference in customer service - Future Shop's staff are commissioned while those at BB are not. So people prefer to shop at BB due to the no stress shopping environment. I can imagine FS didn't have enough business to survive.

Yay, ours will be re-opening as a Best Buy - I hope all the employees will keep their jobs! They had just built a new store here in the last couple of years.
