A LONG DRAGGED OUT tiny little brag.
I was at Sobey's on Saturday night. They had a cartful of obviously "about-to-be-thrown-out" plants. It looked like the florist person just left without taking these guys outside. Most were pretty bad. BUT there was a flower-pot of wilting and very dry yellow tulips. I figured I could "revive" them and then plant them i n the garden a little later.
The regular potted tulips were priced at $4.99. They rang in at $4.99 and I told her they were on a clearance cart with no price. Off she went - very long wait - came back - no, she would have to charge me $4.99.
No Thanks
I thought of checking the dumpster last night as they were obviously headed for the garbagio!
BUT - I was back at Sobey's again tonight - SURPRISE - more VERY TIRED - probably frost-bitten hydrangeas and - guess what - there was the lowly pot of tulips - drier and wiltier than before.
This time, I took them to the cash - and offered to pay $1.00 for them. Well, she couldn 't mark them down....
Well, can I speak to the Florist (I already knew s/he wasn't there) or the manager? AGAIN..... off she went.....
VERY LONG WAIT......... She came back and charged me $1.00.
They are soaking in the sink as we speak. You have to let them dry back, anyway. Nice yellow tulips to match the daffodils that I planted for next spring. Long term planning at it's best! This thread is currently associated with: Guess, Spring Shoes

Cool! Nice to know that you can plant tulips. A few days we went to our flower shop and their florist asked us not to buy tulips because the deer and rabbit eat them. we ended up not buying the tulips.

sounds like you have a green thumb. its pretty mystifying when they ask full price for plants that are on their last legs. If they reduced them immediately when a plant lover could revive them at least they would get their cost out of it.
