To all you techies out there......

I just got a new laptop and I don't have Office.

I received an Excel file that I can't open and I don't really want to have to buy Office just for the sake of opening one Excel file.

Does anyone know if there are any (safe) free downloads for Excel ?

    Thanks in advance !

It's an open source office suite that will work with Microsoft Office files. and it's FREE

You should be able to download an Excel viewer for free. You won't be able to edit though.

Thank you very much for your quick responses !
I downloaded OpenOffice and so far, so good.
I had previously googled 'free Excel' and the OpenOffice was one of the results, but I was leary as I didn't want to possibly infect my new laptop......so thank you for recommending it.

I think even Google documents open Excel and Word files etc.

So if you email the file to yourself in gmail. i think you can open it in gmail.

I used this for years on my Linux computer and it was great. I would get to work and curse out the patch job programming in our Microsoft Office. I have MAC now for work, but I would use it again in a heart beat. I don't think you will regret having it on your computer.

Another vote for OpenOffice. It does not have all the bells and whistles of Microsoft Office, but it has enough. Additionally, it is able to write out PDF files, which is a huge bonus.
