I love this! I'd love to not only plop some in the garden, but have a pot of them growing inside, too!

I've done that with chives right outside my kitchen door. They grow great and adds a great mild onion flavour to my meals since dh doesn't eat onions I I like them.

I only kept mine in water - might be worth trying transplanting outside.

We've been doing this for awhile too. Great when you want to add a small garnish to eggs or whatever you happen to be eating.
I've seen a picture where people are doing the same thing with celery. I've been meaning to try it too.

My mom had chives growing all over her garden. She had so much she was throwing them away. She even had garlic chives. When we sold her house i dug up the chives and garlic chives and transplanted them to my backyard garden. So i have chives and garlic chives coming up every spring. As a matter of fact i snipped some chives yesterday and just chewed on them. But i usually freeze a bunch for the winter months. Tip: Freeze chives between coffee liners. Or you can dry them.

Nat I just purchased a whole chive plant, they are easy to keep. I think I have seen chive seeds though.

thanks - I definitely will do that this year, I really miss having them.
Same with spring onions - in our former house, I had many transplanted from my mom's garden - from over 20 years before! We moved here in winter, so of course didn't take them.
When my son was little and would play outside, he'd just pick a few onion stems and chew on them!
