From what I read and posted in my previous post #82, unpopped popcorn *is* considered a snack

Here it is again. This is the exact wording from the section on Snack Foods:

    Examples of zero-rated snack foods
    • unpopped popcorn kernels, salted or unsalted
    • any products sold primarily as breakfast cereals

On the CRA site under snacks, it says:

    Unpopped popcorn kernels
    59. Unpopped popcorn kernels, including microwave popcorn kernels, are zero-rated when salted or otherwise, since the kernels are not considered to be popcorn prior to popping.

Zero-rated only means it is not taxed. I do think all popcorn would be considered snacks, but in it's prepared form (i.e. popped) it would be taxable. That's my understanding - but everyone needs to do their own research and make their own decisions

Re: unsalted nuts - I still don't get why they wouldn't be considered a snack food. Apparently a mixture of 2 or more nuts, salted or unsalted, would be considered a snack food As far as it being considered an ingredient, under confections (candy) they list baker's chocolate - which would likely also be seen as an ingredient, so it seems that would not be consistent.

And you know what... for all we know, it could all just be due to a computer glitch or programming error at SDM

Yes you are correct. I was thinking at the time that items that are zero rated are not considered snacks, which isn't correct. I'm going to reread this sometime when my head is clearer. I think this category needs some testing out, zero-rated snacks are also listed as cereal bars, bagels, baking chocolate ....

I also thought it was interesting that unpopped popcorn, even the microwave ones, are not considered a snack as they are not in their final form. I've never tried microwave popcorn with the candy and snack coupon, it would be interesting to know if it works.

Used wus $10 snack/candy coupon this week. Worked on microwave popcorn, got the points.

Bought 2 boxes microwave popcorn (over $10)
2 bags ready to eat popcorn (under $10)

used 2 x buy box of microwave popcorn and get ready to eat free coupons.

No more beverages (juice and pop) being counted under food & snacks; at least that's what I was told. Milk is the only liquid that would be counted.

I had the exact offers. I bought 2 packs of chips and 3 packs of pepsi. I got the 500 bp for buying pepsi but not 3000 bp for spending $10 on food and snacks. So when I called, they said no beverages are counted under food and snacks category.

Earlier this week, my shop just met the spending $ for food and snacks offer.
    BP would not apply.

Cashier told me that relish is a condiment, and does not count for food and snacks.
She said condiments are a category by itself.

I replaced the relish with another item and the bp coupon applied.

Regular, bottled water did work for food/snacks.

Happened to me the other day - call and they should add the points. That coupon is hit or miss sometimes.
