Lynn, I figured there had to be more to this, since CBC has always done well with major sporting events and Olympics.
I found some info - given about rugby in the first link, but pertains to other events as well.
"CBC airs as much coverage as made avail by the Organizing Committee.
PanAm organizing committee labels which sports are major (which gets live cameras) and which aren't, not @CBC"
http://blogs.theprovince.com/2015/07/11/pan-am-rugby-broadcast-update-stream-now-available-for-sunday/
"There will 100 hours of coverage on CBC, the most ever and double what was produced during the last games in Guadalajara, Mexico. In addition, another 650 will be available online -- also a record for this event.
CBC has developed apps for streaming, both IOS and Android so Canadians can watch live coverage of the main sports -- track cycling, gymnastics, athletics, diving, swimming, show jumping, volleyball, beach volleyball, combat sports, boxing, soccer and basketball -- online. The rest will be available in highlight form from the medal rounds. (If you're wondering, which sports get live coverage was the decision of the Games organizing committee.)
As McDougall says, these aren't the Olympics so not everything will get the full broadcast treatment. But CBC will try to get as much information and as many highlights as possible on its website."

Thanks again, Nat, that explains a lot. We did catch some of the gymnastics & diving competitions last night on CBC's HD channel......not their usual channel. With nothing better to do than sit here, it would have been nice to watch wall-to-wall coverage. Ah, well, back to reading and knitting...and waiting for our drive-way guys to arrive....yes, life in the fast lane...

I've done more reading and apparently that PanAm committee is quite controlling - they want people to pay whenever they link to their website!

Anyone else disappointed about the announcement about the PanAm closing ceremonies? Kanye West is not my first choice, but at least I know he's American. Sigh. Apparently, our Mayor is not that bright.

Played hometown tourist yesterday & got up close and personal with the flame.
Lots of athletes are hanging out at my local pub (the darn rootbeer I'm addicted to is only available on tap, so I'm turning into a barfly ).
Go Team Canada!

Kanye West is an awful choice! The Beib is done. Celine...Her ego wouldn't fit on the stage.
I don't know who to suggest, but please...someone who is Canadian AND performs mainly IN Canada?!
Doesn't matter what we think. The PTB have made the ridiculous decision for us.

It has been quite entertaining downtown this week, the pedestrian crowds are huge and don't get me started about the GO train, the key it get on a train not stopping at exhibition. I learned that hard lesson on Monday morning when I expected my usual quiet zone commute. It's nice to see so many people showed up for the games. The road traffic has been no worse than any summer.
Friends don't let real friends pay full price.
