Some in the GTA and Hamilton area are planning to leave the area. We already know about traffic nightmares coming, especially for those travelling to and from work.
I have friends and coworkers who are either volunteering or running with the torch. There are events scheduled in Oshawa.
Some people are trying to rent out their Toronto condominiums to visitors. I am curious about their condo insurance if the visitors leave a mess or damage the property.
It will be interesting times

NOT happy about the extra time it will take me to drop DD to the campus and to work and back when these games start. Also very disgusted they made her pay summer fees ( summer courses she is taking ) for the sports facility being used for the games and the facility is off limits to students for the duration of the games and then CLOSED for the entire summer ( even after the games wrap up )
So no, I will not be going to any events.Last edited by walkonby; Fri, Jun 5th, 2015 at 09:05 AM. Reason: oops spelling

I'll watch most of the events, esp the opening and closing ceremonies...speaking of which it's great that they were extended by a day so that ALL athletes could attend the closing ceremonies instead of playing for gold medals! Good decision-making!

I am one of the lucky ones that will have to schlep through the traffic nightmares just to get to work. I was looking for the opening ceremony tickets but best price was 150.00. So I will watch it on TV
Friends don't let real friends pay full price.

Better late than never in answering the QotD.
Not volunteering (don't have the energy for that kind of commitment), but might be going to see one of the events (my friend's new boss moved up a deadline - the day she has tix for diving, which I might inherit if her boss is cranky).
In my neighbourhood, the celebrations have begun for the Pan Am Games. Athletes have started arriving. I didn't have my camera ready when team Brazil came by with their big yellow/green bus. But I did get a shot of the Welcome Centre (my building is the short brick one above the Toronto 2015 sign).
Just to give an idea of how close I am to the Panamania fun, this shot is taken in the back alley - the white tents on the left are the Welcome Centre & Media Centre, the tent straight ahead is the cafeteria (which can feed 2000 athletes at once), the buildings on the left (with the George Brown logo at the top) are the Athletes Village, and the brick building on the right is where I live (although I face the opposite direction).
Took this shot a week or so ago from my neighbour's place. Not sure what the multi-coloured pattern is supposed to be, but ya gotta love the oversized Muskoka chairs (rumour has it that this is where athletes will be interviewed by media).

We're starting to see some activity wrt PanAm (the nay-sayers wouldn't survive a few days in my neighbourhood ). Here's a shot from my window - this is the staging area where the athletes will catch the buses to get to their events. Note the barricades on my street at the bottom of the photo - Lily dog & I have seen more than one twit try to drive around/through/over them in something considerably larger than a Smart car.
Oh & Viva Brasil!
