Sunday marks the summer solstice, or first day of the season, in the Northern Hemisphere. It's also the longest day of the year.
"Solstice" is a word that means "sun" and "staying," or the sun standing still. While on other days the sun seems to move in the sky, on the solstice it doesn't. In terms of the planet's revolution, the sun is farthest away from the Earth during the North Hemisphere's summer and closest during its winter.
What do you like best about summer?
What will you be doing this summer?

what I like about summer is people in general seem less stressed, seems like I get more " hello good day " comments when out in the summer. No real plans here, as someone still works while I am retired and someone else works PT and the other one works too. Gee, I almost feel guilty??

Beautiful summer in Saskatchewan!
Not my pic - but this was taken this afternoon near Rouleau SK - where "Corner Gas" was filmed.
It's a field of canola.

Frolicking in the canola field!
James Fisher captured this great photo near Unity, Sask. He says: "I got home from work and was just unwinding from another day on the oil rigs. Deb came home a short time after all excited about eight moose she had seen out in a field. She had to stop to let one of them across the road. So I grabbed my camera and got in the car with her. These six stayed close together. I took pictures for about an hour and a half. While photographing, I noticed one moose had jumped/reared. So the second time she did it, I was ready and that is how I got this shot.
