I was LUCKY!! Very lucky. I am sure many of you have various shelving units that you have your items stockpiled on.
I have 2 similar to these ones on the main floor in a spare room for food only.
So the other week I went in to grab something but something about the whole shelf looked " off " to me.
Previously I had purchased 2 cases of Garden Select Pasta Sauce ( jars ) that were on sale and not thinking I placed them on one of the the higher shelves. Maybe I just wanted them to be near the pasta and Parmesan Cheese
I know some of you are cringing knowing what's coming.......3 of the lowest level plastic tubes that represent the structural " legs " of my shelving had bowed forward under the strain and weight of not just those jars but all the other stuff on them.
The instant I saw the legs I gasped! Then I wondered why had it not fallen over yet??If it hadn't been for a strategically placed home made ( so solid ) wooden ladder that DH had installed for climbing up into a crawlspace above I would have lost the whole lot of it! The ladder stairs are on an angle, a bit tough to describe but it was lodged tightly in front of the damaged shelf and was the only thing keeping it from falling forward.
Whew! Dodged a bullet that time. DS helped me carefully remove all the stock ( painstakingly ) jar by jar, can by can, etc.
We reinforced the shelf and now all the heaviest glass goods are in another spot.
Oh and both cats insist on sneaking in there whenever I open the door to get something, can you imagine what would have happened if it had fallen while either of them were in there investigating in their cat ways?
I shudder to think.

Thank Goodness you didn't lose any of your stockpile. When we put so much care, time, energy and passion on building our stockpile, we can't let it go down the drain just like that.

Great that you noticed, and averted what could have been a mess, or a CATastrophe!

Walk, you are very lucky. You could have hurt yourself pretty bad. I am happy that you did not loose nothing in your stockpile but more happy that you did not get hurt. I sure wish you a great week......................................

I think it's possible that I may have an unhealthy attachment/relationship with my beloved stockpile.
Some of you may have actual inventory lists, I know many of us rotate our stock religiously, we dust tops of cans/jars, check expiry dates carefully, and to an outsider who never stocks up on anything this whole process might seem silly.
But since I had invested the time to search the deals, waited for the sales, used aggravating and vague/restrictive coupons, PM to save on gas, scanned receipts for a rebate and done it all so in the end I can maybe save some $$, happily share my finds in a " I got it FREE brag " and stay a little ahead of the game.....yeah something like this shook me up.
Were the hairs on my neck supposed to stand up? They actually did as I stood there scanning the situation, still not sure how I managed to hold in my screams ( I scream easily when frightened )
Thanks for the kind words all. I just gotta breathe.......aaahhhhh.....in and out............. there it is...... my happy place.

I'm happy to hear that you are alright and that you were able to avoid any loss of your stockpiled items. Thank you for posting, as it serves as a reminder to us all of the potential hazard that can exist with our own stockpiles.

Yes, we've got the white and also the black versions of the plastic shelving for storing boxes of stuff and also cookware (some of which should be sold for scrap metal). I too have been checking that the heaviest things are on the lower shelves and smaller are at eye level or higher.
Should "timber" happen downstairs, brother's various things he spent $$$ on will get the brunt of the damage.2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.
