Step 1: Went to President's Choice Financial website and saw a promotion for 2.5% interest on RRSP and TFSA account.
http://forum.smartcanucks.ca/412345-...2016-a-canada/
Step 2: Went in to PCF Bank and got 2.5% interest- Jan. to March.
Step 3: Called Tangerine Bank and asked them to match PCF's rate(formerly ING Direct).
Got a "No"
Asked them what they can do, to give us a higher rate.
Step 4: Got 2.0% interest on saving account - January to June.
If you don't ask, you don't get.

Did you already have your Tangerine account, or you joined and got the promotion? I already have an account and wondered if it was worth calling.

President's Choise 2.5% rate is for the Tax Free Savings Account and the Registered Retirement Savings Account only.
Calling Tangerine Bank to get a better rate, can't hurt. All they can say is no. But we got 2% on the Savings account until June. They did not have anything for the TFSA or RRSP accounts. Yet.

I agree.
No fees and half decent interest rates. Compared to the big banks who give you lots of fees but not lots of interest.
Went to TD Bank to get a bit of US cash. They tried to get me to get a US dollar account.
Asked the what was the fee. They said no fee, but you have to keep a thousand there.
I asked what was the interest. They avoided that question and try to sell, saying that the peace of mind knowing that you have a great exchange rate is the key.
I asked them which TD account they recommended. She was quiet then-- they could not answer that question.
