Just wondering if anyone knows anything about Jakob's Disesae, a Buddy of mine was just diagnosed with it.. He was in perfect shape, in the military.. Thought he had a stroke over Christmas, but after many tests they diagnosed him with this. This is one I have never heard of.. it strikes 1 in a million.. Go figure..

Oh, that's awful.
I remember first hearing about it with the whole mad cow disease thing from years back - that's acquired CJD.
Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease - CJD - is a prion disease where that misshapen protein starts to destroy brain cells.
I would suppose his treatment for symptoms and prognosis would depend upon what type he has and its progression.

Thank you Natalka.. Think the progression is very fast, Last Friday, they told him he had 2 years.. then it was a few months, to a couple of weeks, today was a few days.. He's lost his eye sight, can hardly talk, chokes on food, they have moved him this afternoon to a palative care facility.. I ask anyone who can, pray for Michael..

I'm so sorry to read about your buddy. I will be adding prayers for the family as well. This and so many other horrible diseases rip life from so many way to early.

Thank you everyone for your prayers. Michael has slipped into a coma, and the worse is anytime. I just cannot believe in what this disease has done to him in a week. We never hear of this disease or many like it. But again thank you everyone for your prayers and thoughts..

i'm so very sorry for your loss, rnc.
unfortunately, in this case, i don't think a cure is possible. prions are neither alive nor nonalive. the best we can hope for is to eradicate infected sources and somehow try to contain the prions. since they are not living things, they can exist indefinitely.
