    DOLE PACKAGED SALADS

Dole Foods said Friday it is withdrawing the sale of salads in three Canadian provinces and more than 20 U.S. states after an outbreak of Listeria linked to Dole packaged salads.

The American Centers for Disease Constrol (CDC) said in a statement that one person has died and 12 have been hospitalized by a multistate listeria outbreak tied to Dole’s packaged salads.

Meanwhile, the Public Health Agency of Canada is currently investigating after seven people were hospitalized in a Listeria outbreak affecting five provinces. In one case, a person has died but it has not been determined if Listeria contributed to the death.

“These packaged salads were sold under various brand names, including Dole, Fresh Selections, Simple Truth, Marketside, The Little Salad Bar and President’s Choice. The packaged salads can be identified by the letter ‘A’ at the beginning of the manufacturing code found on the package.”

In Canada, three cases were detected in Ontario and one each in Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador.
The source of the outbreak has not been confirmed, however the agency is investigating prepackaged leafy greens, salad blends, and salad kits.

I saw this online tonight. AFTER I ate a whole bag of Dole American blend salad for lunch. /SMH. I told my Mom that if I die to sue. lol That's weird though that it isn't listed on the Government site as a recall.

I don't buy bagged salad, no matter the brand - I've always thought they had a little chemical-like taste (just the produce, not counting any dressing), but that's just me, I'm so sensitive.

My son buys the Dole ones all the time - but he said he hasn't in a while.

Thanks so much for posting! I buy bagged salad and I still wash it, though I don't know if that would be enough to kill listeria. Time to skip salads for now because Dole seems to be the only one sold around here

Good info. Led me to read a couple of articles about this. Seems the timeframe of concern is from Sept 2015 to Jan 2016.

I try to stay away from the salads but I'm guilty of buying the spinach but I wash it all myself. I'm paranoid.

A listeria outbreak linked to Dole packaged salads has hospitalized 12 people in six states in the past six months, including a Michigan resident who died of the illness, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Friday. Retailers and consumers who have any remaining product with an “A” code should not consume it, and are urged to discard it. The salads were sold under a variety of brand names, including Dole, Fresh Selections, Simple Truth, Marketside, The Little Salad Bar and President's Choice.
List of provinces included in the voluntary withdrawal:

    • Ontario
    • New Brunswick
    • Quebec

Unfortunately my boyfriend and I ate Dole bagged salad for dinner last night before hearing this news, and of course when I went into my garbage and checked the bag it started with the letter A

This includes the PC brand salads. They pulled all of the coolers full yesterday while I was at loblaws. If the manufacture code has a A in front of it it is from that facility. I have the PC brocolli Coke slaw in my fridge that has an A in front, so that is going back when I do my regular shop today.
