I must admit DD packed her own lunch. I think she took a whole wheat bagel with peanut butter( bagel 25 cents at No Frills), homemade scone with jam, snap peas, fruit gummies and not sure if anything else. Although I do not know the exact cost I am sure the total was well under a $1.00 and much cheaper than buying lunch at the cafeteria or surrounding fast food joints.

This morning I made 6 chicken wraps (gluten free). Apple sauce pouch, raisins, tomatoes, water.

I like these threads, they are helping me break down my shopping and costs for individual meals. Keeping in mind we do a lot of GF, this can be difficult to price out per item and the threads are encouraging me. I hope you don't mind!

    Wraps
-GF wrap $1.00 (They are 6 for $5.99...maybe one day I will look into a recipe for my own).
-Lunch meat $1.00 (Also has to be GF)
    -Cheese, Lettuce, Mustard ~$0.25

About $2.25 each. Plus about a dollar for everything else in her lunch. $3.25.

Definitely more expensive when you need gluten free for your daughter Granger. That must be super challenging for very low income families.

Forgot that I have sent DS vanilla yogurt this week as well (it is the pour kind that I bought last week for $2.24 (800 g I think) it was on for 1/2 price because it expires this weekend. He has been eating it at home as well in his lunch this week.

When we buy food for the food bank we always buy gluten free. I was excited to see the pancake mix in the Sobey's food bank bags were GF.

    GF Tuna Salad
Tuna - $2.50 (I buy the expensive stuff)
GF Pasta - $1.66 (This was a big score, 3 for $5...can't remember where)
    Dressings etc - ~$0.10

    I estimate 8 servings so $4.26 or $0.53/serving

    GF Rice Krispie Treats
GF Rice Krispies $3.99 (another huge score...can't remember where...baby brain)
    Marshmallows $1.99
    Butter ~0.37

    I estimate 12 servings so $6.35 or $0.53/serving

    Raisins
    $0.21 per box

=$1.27 per lunch not including water and if I throw in anything else. The pasta with protein always fills. She will do the veggies at home for snack (less likelihood of waste anyway).

I have definitely bettered last week.

@1_love check out this thread...the link bookmarks our tortilla conversation. There is a pic of the brand I use and I have yet to find a pre made wrap that doesn't crack. I hope to try the recipe in the thread sometime. Maybe you'll join us in that thread too!

Wish we could pack peanut butter sandwiches, nut products aren't allowed here.

Today DS has hot dogs (which I rarely buy, both because they're not a healthy thing and they've gotten crazy expensive). Often I make batches of stuff to freeze, like soup, mac and cheese, etc. I freeze them in silicone muffin pans and then into a freezer bag so I can have things for those days I haven't prepared. I do meatloaf and meatballs that way too.
$900+ in Amazon GCs and counting! You KNOW you want free stuff too, click the link!

Oh the days of PB and J...my daughter due to her Celiac sits at an allergy table (because they are only in kindergarten). We have to be careful not to pack anything with nuts or pineapple. I don't mind. BUT I would also like to point out that everyone else is allowed gluten (bread and crackers). I believe my daughter needs to learn to keep herself safe. Her dietary restriction is not immediately life threatening (it is long term though). I just find it funny that she sits at the allergy table, that is probably full of her "allergen."

And back to the thread topic...I need ideas for next week!

Perhaps not the healthiest but DD sometimes likes to take toasted homemade waffles and a small container of Nutella as part of her lunch!
