Expired on: Fri, Jun 17th, 2016I see the Blog page is pushing TurboTax 15% off again.
Studiotax, certified by CRA, is free. In fact if you go to CRA's webpages they list several free programs.
I've used StudioTax for years, no problem, including my home business. This thread is currently associated with: N/A

Turbo Tax is also FREE if you use the basic online edition. Its for all income groups. The only difference is that it doesn't really guide you like the PAID version, and doesn't give you TIPS etc. So pretty much you need to know what you are doing.
It just gives you a drop down list of the various forms & slips. Just some basic stuff is filled on its own, but the rest you have to do on your own. So the FREE Turbo Tax version is only for tax savvy individuals or for ones who have SIMPLE returns.

The BLOG is full of third party affiliate links. I barely visit it or see it. Most of the stuff there is from the forums any ways
You click on them and buy a product and/or service SC gets a commission for your sale. Don't really blame SC, they have to recover their costs somehow and pay their staff & bloggers & the owner Alex.
For them its a business, honestly I would be doing the same if I was Boo. Good for them & good for us as long as we are not forced to buy anything and have a choice

I decided to mix it up and try the free version of Turbo Tax this year. It did require a bit of knowledge and there was a bug in the questions in that a question that prevented netfile was defaulted to 'no' so you had to catch this and refresh before it could actually be sent in.
My tax situation is also really simple.
I've used just about every (online) tax software and they all have pros and cons. Ultimately its easy to get something free or cheap so I'm not sure why people pay for it unless they have a situation that truly warrants a professional.Kate

I second that, StudioTax is the best tax software I ever used (I had TurboTax, UFile, and HRBlock in the past).
