The weather guys & gals say The Shwa will have up to 20 degrees celsius temps on Saturday. The grass is a little tall. Is it o.k. to mow in April? Afraid of a frost or that 4 letter word beginning with 's'. "Snow"

If you have had dry weather for quite a while, it would be okay to do this early after raking - but don't cut it short.

I've been wondering the same thing about my grass. I saw a few people in the neighbourhood mowing their grasses yesterday and today. Mine just doesn't seem long enough yet though so I'm a bit worried as I don't want to cut too soon. I'm also worried about the weather...what if we get another cold front? LOL anything is possible.

Go mow that lawn and let the clippings stay on the lawn! I actually saw two dandelion plants on the college's mulched flower bed by the automotive dept. Already!

Just thoroughly rake the lawn for now. Get rid of all the dead grass and debris from winter. Pull the weeds if you can, the weeds will be gone and aeration will also take place, where the weeds are pulled. Let the grass settle in and the roots go deeper.

Don't mow till first week of May.

I agree with raking the dead debris and stuff but counter your advice to wait until May on the lawncutting. Many Hamiltonians were mowing grass, washing cars/vans and raking lawns.

But I did my raking/branch collecting and flowerbed feeding in spurts over the past month of sunny but cold days. I do not want to be doing yardwork on a WARM and SUNNY day (time for fun activities!). Cool and Sunny-no loss of free time.
