I can see the mods ready to press the dump button on this dirty brag
This is actually a clean brag. Stores have been advertising $0.99 dirt. Dirt cheap. What's better than dirt cheap?
Free dirt.
Durham Region compost event
8 bags compost (about $2.99+++ in store) --> free
2 bags mulch (about $2.99+++ in the store)--> free
2 blue bins (take back chipped ones and get new ones; green bins and composter for sale there too)--> free
1 yard waste bag (free, worth about $0.50)--> free
free exercise since,1 day gym pass $9.00+++; shovelling compost and mulch-->free
Estimated savings= $50 before taxes
Plus
My donation to the Sally Ann who were there:
canned salmon, oatmeal, soup, chili
Health and Beauty Aids (HABA): Vaseline for Men, Dove for Women, Listerine (no alcohol kind), toothpaste, toothbrush
The Sally Ann volunteer lady said, "These toiletries, this is the good stuff. Are you sure you want to give all this?". It's Karma -- what goes around comes around, eh? So that's why I added the HABA to the donation.
Nice way to end the birthday week, eh?
Free.
Next event, recycle electronics for free. Last time we donated an old answering machine and got free large can of paint. They forgot to bring the paint so the gave us two big cans of paint. At Wally's the paint starts at $16.xx+++This thread is currently associated with: N/ALast edited by Shwa Girl; Sat, Apr 23rd, 2016 at 06:06 PM.

rookie way: use small container that you can lift (rookie=me)
veteran way: one guy had a low rider pick up truck. He backed up the truck so the compost pile was easily accessible. The back of the truck had large containers ready to fill. He had a long handle shovel. No lifting for him. And, his truck was old and rusting, so no problem with dirt in his truck bed.
