If you are a pet lover, you know how hard this can be. We have had our "puppie" since he WAS a puppie, 10 years ago, although he was a surrender to the Humane Society.
He was our constant companion and "protector." He was always ready for a snuggle, to share our apples or bananas or to run up and down the basement stairs to retrieve his bone. He "welcomed" and bossed around 2 other "brothers" who sadly passed before him.
He was due for surgery tomorrow to remove a growth under his back leg. But, unfortunately, it grew too fast and he developed 2 other significant growths within two weeks. He was in pain we decided to let his pain end.
We are brokenhearted. Please hug those you love! This thread is currently associated with: 123inkcartridges.ca

I'm so sorry to hear this. Pets truly become a part of our lives. Take comfort that puppy is not in pain any more.

Avon: so sorry to hear about the death of your fur baby, it's not easy to watch them suffer.

I am sorry to hear of your loss. How sweet he liked apples and bananas. What a neat memory to have.

I'm so very sorry to hear of your loss. We lost our dog, whom we also adopted as a baby puppy and had for 10 years, very suddenly a year a half ago and my heart still hearts every day. It's amazing the joy they bring to your life. Sometimes you don't realize just how much joy and love they bring you until they're gone.
Be strong and be thankful your furbaby is no longer in pain.

@avoncallingu, you made one of the most difficult decisions a fur-parent ever has to make: to release your beloved Jesse out of his pain.
Avon, my Dear Friend, I grieve with you; those of us who have lost a pet know the hurt and pain that's in your heart right now. May you soon remember Jesse with a smile rather than with tears...it takes time, as you know, but he's romping around with Maxx now, free from pain and young once more.
Big hugs for you, Sweetheart...

Thank-you everyone for your kind thoughts and support. DH had had a blood transfusion yesterday so he didn't have to go into the hospital today for blood work before his chemo tomorrow so we had a "day off". We decided to visit his sister and beau in Amherstburg. It was a beautiful day and we had a lovely lunch down by the river and did some shopping.
It wasn't until I got home and started to put the plastic bags away that I realized that we don't have to collect "poop" bags any more. I just burst into tears. Silly things like that, I guess , tap into your feelings.
Thanks again for your thoughts!
Lynn, your poem is beautiful!Last edited by avoncallingu; Tue, May 3rd, 2016 at 10:13 PM.

@avoncallingu , you're absolutely right: it's those little, unexpected things that stab us in the heart.
You know that I lost my Best Friend 2 years ago...even now when I'm out shopping by myself, I'll stop at something and recall how we'd chat, laugh as we examine it and declare it to be too expensive even at 50% off...or when we'd be in HomeSense opening up all the candles and scented lotions, sniffing them all....I still get tears in my eyes and walk out of the stores...even now it hurts so much.
With our fur-kids the hurt is at home and it's so hard to be there without them...I'm hurting for you too, my dearest Friend and wish I could be there with you.
All the best to your dear Hubby tomorrow as he has his chemotherapy...wishing him a restful, uneventful recovery...

avon, my condolences for the loss of your sweet 10 yr old puppy. They will always be kittens and puppies to us no matter how many years go by.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend and companion. I'm dreading that day too as someone mentioned as one of my dogs is getting older. They all have their own unique personality don't they and little ways that make us love them and just enjoy them.
