Thread: No more overage at Walmart?
-
Sat, May 28th, 2016, 05:04 PM #1
Not sure if this is nation-wide or just my store but apparently they no longer have overage for items. The cashier mentioned that there was a notice by the entrance and it started May 16th. On my way out I saw the small paper sign hidden on the wall.
Getting overage with coupons was "free" money and I don't blame them but I am really disappointed that it changed. This thread is currently associated with: Walmart

aw....another wonderful perk now gone! I never noticed any sign at my local WM but in reality I'm not getting as many opportunities for overages anyway.

The cashier told me about the overage on the Aveeno coupons so I did so on Sunday. Must just be your store.

I don't shop at Walmart so it does not affect me. I can see why they would change the policy though.

Walmart makes money back on the product giving overage so I wouldn't see why they wouldn't allow it.
My coupons are usually put in as the value of the coupon. I think it may be just your store.
Also a lot of those coupons says the gst and hst is included in the value of the coupon.

This! Am I understanding the wording right? Does that mean a $1 coupon (with the gst/hst included wording) should take $1.13 off total? Mandy, how are they supposed to enter coupons that include tax?
There was only one WM cashier ever who processed my Hasbro FPC's so that I paid no tax.

Actually, that wording has nothing to do with tax being included as far as the customer is concerned. That wording is on just about every single coupon. Manufacturer's coupons, tax is payable on the price of the item BEFORE the coupon is applied. That wording tells the retailer this. The retailer is getting reimbursed from the manufacturer what they inputted the coupon for (face value or less). Since the taxes are paid on the price of the item before the coupon, and the coupon reduces what is being paid by the customer, part of the taxes paid to the government are included in the coupon, and as the coupon is reimbursable, the retailer when they submit the gst/hst/qst to the government, the amount submitted is reduced by what is part of the coupon value for taxes via an input tax credit.
This is where the wording on the coupons comes into play:
