I invested in a laser printer which has paid for itself. I'm still using the same cartridge that came with the printer which was about 2 years ago. So when shopping for a printer you should be comparing the ink/powder lifespan if you are wanting something that will last.

Research the cost of replacement cartridges and purchase source. Some of those cartridges are very expensive (for coupon printing).
Also, be sure there is a different cartridge slot for each colour. Some of the other printers had a slot for 1 cartridge that contained 3 colours. The problem with the 1 cartridge of 3 colours, is that if one colour runs out, you have to replace the entire cartridge of 3 colours (becomes expensive).

Just refilled my canon cartridges (black and colour) at Costco for $25.00 including tax.
