Growing Garlic Bulbils
For those gardeners who like to experiment and who have a bit of patience, over 30 heirloom varieties of garlic bulbils are now available (while supplies last) from Seeds of Diversity Canada. They hope to get feedback from growers about how different varieties do in different regions of the country.
The bulbils are free, though there is a $10 charge for shipping. Orders will include at least 20 bulbils for 5 different varieties. Note that unlike cloves, which produce garlic bulbs the following year, bulbils require 2 years to produce full-grown garlic bulbs.
Information about the varieties of bulbils available and a really good article about how to grow them can be found HERE.
Please share with the vegetable gardening enthusiasts in your life - preferably those who are organized and who can make a few notes! :-)

Learned something new about garlic-did not know about bulbils or their 2yr growth cycle. One might wish to plant lavender seeds as well since the flowers come in year 2 also.

Seeds of Diversity has their heirloom garlic bulbil offer on again for the next month or so. The cost is now $15.00 for the bulbils (minimum of 50) including shipping. :-)
