Gage Park has the benefit of being near a major intersection and some bus routes. But the park was crowded from all of the things the festival was trying to be.
Until the more recent expansion of bus service where I am, getting to Gage Park on a weekend was a real commitment of time by public transit for a festival. When I was working in the Parkdale Ave area, it made sense for me to attend on Friday after work rather come back on a weekend day due to transit availiability. I'm sure the food places outside of Gage Park miss having some foot traffic come into their eateries for takeout to enjoy on the way to the festival.
At least those attending this festival will have an express bus shuttle (using the 403) from downtown (easier for people coming from other parts of Hamilton or even Burlington by transit) to the fairgrounds site every 15 minutes. The festival vendors are basically the only retailers there unless someone walks to the gas bar/convenience store on the other side of the intersection.2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.

The fairgrounds have some young trees near the front entry driveway but the more mature trees ring the property and are not near the buildings for the most part (maybe by the outdoor horse ring areas).

Festival is on this weekend. True Hamiltonian will sell a special edition shirt about Gage Park during the festival.
HSR will run shuttles (you have to pay) from downtown and the upper mountain. I saw someone from Eastgate area comment on Twitter that there is no east end shuttle from the Eastgate Square area plus no weekend/holiday Transcab services for those who won't have public transit access if they want to get to Eastgate to take the 1-King bus to Gage Park.
