Brian was interviewed , possibly on BBCs Hardtalk or The Sky At Night just after he got his PhD. He was talking about how he got the interview for the doctorate but was turned down as he was a mature student( above 30 yo) and was not qualified for a British govt grant. He was told if he could find however much was needed by private sponsorship, then he may be eligible for the study programme . He mentioned that he was THE Brian May , wrote a cheque out and got his place .....
