Thanks for the link. This came at a good time since they recently added HBO and I hope they will have a HD version of it.

bell was giving away free boxes about a year ago but of course, you have to sign up on a contract. its no different than getting a free cell phone with every 3 year contract.

I signed up for the deal in the OP, and I can say that it's not a scam. It's different from the PVR one, since, well, it doesn't include a PVR. But the hardware is mine, and there's nothing more than a gentleman's agreement to subscribe to the (roughly) $50/month package for six months. After that I can cut it down to the basics, or tell them to zark off if I want, and the hardware is still mine. No contract at all.
73% of all statistics are made up, including this one.

If you want a free bell HD receiver do this:
1. Call Bell
2. Tell them Rogers offered you a free HD receiver
3. Get it free
Couldn't be easier. I did the same but with Rogers. Technically I'm renting it for 2 years free but they said all I have to do in 2 years is call back and ask them to renew the promotion.... although in 2 years it will be obsolete and I'll want something better. It's not a contract either.
