Maybe but I've been in Locke (it's like 1/4th the size of Valley Park) and Mount Hope branches. They are small. Given all the surveys around Valley Park, a more spacious branch is probably overdue. And the local high school (Saltfleet) is nearby as well.

Book lovers, rejoice! There's a Spring Used Book sale in early April at certain HPL locations:
    http://www.hpl.ca/news/spring-book-sale

Central Branch's newest addition to the 4th floor will open in early April too:
Central Makerspace will remain closed until it opens on Monday, April 4. Thank you.

Noticed at Terryberry's magazine section this week that there is a photo of Ricardo's winter issue (the one with the Black Forest cake) on one shelf. New subscription coming soon for the branch-that's great! Don't know which other branches may share in the same title as I cannot find the title alone in the catalogue, only books by Ricardo.

Used Book Sale begins tomorrow at certain HPL locations!
I might pop into Westdale branch to see what periodicals might be for sale. Weather permitting, as snow is in the forecast.

Yesterday I got one hardcover book for $2 that I read only a few months ago (best career guidance that I've read to date) and two older non-fiction paperbacks>my new reference library.
Westdale branch's sale is between the entry and exit doors-there are some Chinese-language titles, hardcovers (f/nf), teen and
juvenile literature. The wall between the doors also had some books on the holders with prices on Post-It notes. No periodicals
    were seen for sale.

The library still has a couple of finance events that deal with estate planning/executors coming up in April! Since we are thinking income taxes/planning for 2016, there could be consideration given to updating personal financial paperwork (wills, etc.) while money matters are on the mind.

Central Library is closed as it is dealing with a power outage. The alert on the website indicated power restoration is expected to occur by 1pm. The outage may affect other branches (the book return system seems to be down so expect to use the drop box).

Update: Spec's story on the outage- http://www.thespec.com/news-story/65...re-than-1-000/

The alert disappeared from the library's website.

I did not know that a local horticultural society sponsored the Canadian Gardening magazine subscriptions at the library!
There used to be a binder cover with sponsor name put on each sponsored title at my local branch several years ago. Usually one or two popular titles plus a few special interest ones.
The society uses profits from the sale to fund its outreach programs, which include 10 subscriptions to Canadian Gardening for the Hamilton Public Library system, maintaining gardens at Chedoke Presbyterian, sponsoring a street median flower bed and Jason’s House, a March of Dimes home. The society also donates to the Green Angels program at Royal Botanical Gardens, which teaches children about gardening.

Anyone who relies on Binbrook branch knows it's been closed for renovation recently.

If you go into your local library branch or municipal centre, pick up the City of Hamilton's Recreation dept.'s new Fall/Winter guide at the checkout stations or brochure rack. There are two offers you might like to know about:
    1) one page has a YWCA ad at the bottom and the ad can be brought in to a YWCA for a one week FREE fitness/aquatic pass.
    2) Mother's Restaurant (Queenston Rd) has a coupon offer for a free kids' meal *under 12* when accompanying adult buys an entrée (min. $13.99 value).

Fall Program Guides are now available at the library branches.

    Things to note:
Thankgiving weekend: there will be a new computer program installed to support the circulation of materials. So access to the library catalogue, BiblioCommons, will not be available.

Your HPL card allows for up to 75 items to be borrowed (increase from 60 items) and up to 5 renewals on items (as long as no one else is waiting for a hold). You can also place up to 75 holds.

The annual HPL book sale has been moved to mid-November. Dates are November 14 to 19 at the Central Library (one of the program rooms on the main floor-the ad does not say). Prices are $1 to $5 with exceptions.

Program information for women: there is a financial planning for women program offered this fall (two times in October and one time in November) with Andrea Gallant. Really recommend that you consider adding a date to your schedule and attending to expand your financial planning knowledge. I had attended her spring session on estate planning-stellar information!

Burlington Public Library also has its Fall Program Guide released-read the guide overview of the interesting programs coming in the fall. There's an Edwardian clothing sewing challenge for beginner sewers! Intriguing:
