Free tuition is available starting in 2017 for Ontario students.
Maximum family income is $83000 per year or less, to be eligible.
    https://www.ontario.ca/page/new-ontario-student-grant

    How to apply
    https://osap.gov.on.ca/OSAPSecurityW....xhtml?lang=en

See if you are eligible for a grant or a loan
    https://www.ontario.ca/page/how-get-osap#section-1

    Fine print
How many times you can apply for the grant

The grant is available as long as you are eligible for OSAP support. However, there is a lifetime limit to how often you can receive the tuition component of the new grant. This works similarly to the current 30% Off Ontario Tuition grant.
The tuition component of the grant is based on very simple eligibility criteria: your family income must be below $160,000 (or more for larger families). The tuition component of the Ontario Student Grant can only be received for up to:

    • 8 terms of study for full-time students
    • 12 terms of study for full-time students with disabilities

If you already received the 30% Off Ontario Tuition grant, those grants will be applied toward your lifetime maximum for the tuition component of Ontario Student Grant.
If you decide to study part-time, or take time off, you can apply for the grant again when you return to full-time studies.

What you pay out of pocket

You are expected to contribute $3,000 per school year to your education costs.
This figure is based on the amount a student can earn (after tax) while working over a summer. By working an average of 17 hours per week, at minimum wage, for 16 weeks, students will be able to make this contribution.
You can also put any existing savings toward the required contribution amount. Or, if you are working at a part-time job while in school, you can put the money you earn during the school year towards the contribution amount.

    Contribution waiver

The $3,000 contribution amount will automatically be waived if you:

    • have children
    • are on ODSP (Ontario Disability Support Program) or Ontario Works
    • are a Crown Ward or have other eligibility status with a children’s aid society

Thanks Shwa Girl. If I'm reading it correctly,

    free if income under $50k,
    grant if income under $83k,
loan possibility if under $130k (or $160k, says two different amounts in different paragraphs).

    Yes.
There will be a few who do not have to earn $3000 to qualify for the OSAP grant

Interesting that the assumption is for a part time working student over summer is not going to be spending any of that money on any costs for food, transportation or may work clothes during the summer.

But the tuition program financing is of interest. How much academic upgrading will I have to do this year if I aspire to quest for a degree in economics or better yet, translation? Not that I have money for moving to Ottawa or York University (both offer translation degrees) in Toronto. This could be the financial puzzle project to occupy my time soon once I work out a budget for October's real life needs. Good thing I have Excel on the notebook at home!

I need to see if Rodney Dangerfield's Back to School movie is still available to borrow. Acquiring the "it's all good" relaxed attitude is another project.

Nice to see a few SCers thinking of going back to school
If you want to keep your job you have now, online degrees would also work. So long as the school is in Ontario.

This is good for undergraduate degrees and graduate degrees too.

At least the thinking and research parts are no-cost at the moment.

Just took a peek at the grant page-whoa, there are tax credit penalties (provincial and federal) tied to the grant for courses in 2017!
    Tuition and education tax credits

For courses that start on or after September 5, 2017: you can no longer claim Ontario Tuition and Education tax credits.
For courses taken before September 5, 2017: you may be eligible to claim Ontario Tuition and Education tax credits. Unused credits from previous years can also be carried forward.
You can no longer claim the federal Education and Textbook tax credits for courses that start on or after January 1, 2017. The Tuition Tax Credit will continue to be provided by the government of Canada.

My French is actually pretty bad haha
My English is better, I was just being saucy.

In High school I didn`t care I just wanted to get out and for my schooling math and english wasn`t a requirement.

But now I`m looking into ECE and Addictions counselling, which needs English, but my marks aren`t that great.

You likely have an area campus that offers academic upgrading for free once you determine a learning plan with one of the staffers and commit to studies. There may also be some kind of assistance for transit fares or childminding-you can ask.

Mohawk College has academic upgrading in the Hamilton area (Fennell Campus). http://www.mohawkcollege.ca/communit...-upgrading-ace

The Ontario Universities Fair will be held in Toronto-tomorrow to Sunday. Great way to speak to representatives of schools you are interested in. http://www.ouf.ca/when-and-where/

    http://dailynews.mcmaster.ca/article...s-and-parents/
I saw the McMaster University link on their tweet today so put it here for all to read.

The link to get the passport for the fair: http://www.ouf.ca/passport/
    Here’s how:

    1. Register online, with your name and email address.
    2. You will receive a personalized OUF Passport with a barcode by email.
    3. Bring your Passport to the OUF with you, on your smart phone, as a paper printout or both.
    4. If you would like further information from a university at the OUF, just ask a university representative to scan your Passport. This way, the university will be able to contact you directly.
