Don't they see the income each year to see if you qualify or not ?

Say this year you might have say $ 28,000 or less, but next 4 years you might have considerably more due to say a PT job, rental income, Investment etc . So someone who is approved for 5 years can cheat the system and get away with it, if they don't have to qualify each year.

or maybe the electricity guys automatically call CRA and check your income each yr with your SIN etc.

You have to be on CPP to get approval for 5 years so chances you are not rolling in bucks.

You don't have to roll in bucks. The cut off for 2 people is $ 28,000 , but even if you make just 100 bucks above that you get disqualified ! Its not on a pro-rated basis.

So if someone applies today and is slightly over the threshold they will be disqualified. They won't even get for 1 year.

but someone else might get approved for 5 years, and in those 5 years they might have years where they are above the threshold but will still get the credit, as oppossed to qualifying each year.

OAS and GIS payments are like that, each year they check your income to see or adjust your GIS.

I am applying for a senior low income couple whose income is less than $ 28,000. Husband and Wife.

They pay the Hydro bill through their bank account. But the Hydro bill has their Son's name on it and the Husband's i.e Senior father name is also on it.

Wife's name i.e Senior mother is not on the bill.

The son has nothing to do with the bill and doesn't even live at that address. He lives somewhere else.

Should they remove the son's name from the Hydro bill and also Add the wife's i.e mother's name to the bill ? Before they i.e the senior low income couple apply to the OEB for the rebate ? Will his i.e son's name on the Hydro bill create any issues ? The Husband's ( Father's ) name is also there on the bill , mind you.

Poorly advertised, marketed and implemented program. Lot of eligible candidates unable to use this rebate program, maybe that's what the government wants, who knows ?

I found it easy to apply for - I sent a copy of my notice of assessment and confirmed how many people reside in my home. It came through fairly quickly. Wish other utilities offered something as well.

Hydro One keeps providing inserts for said program yet based on the criteria, my parents won't qualify as they are above the cutoff amount.

Hope you looked at the couple's hydro provider's website to see how onerous or easy it is to remove the son's name off the hydro bill. Find out if the son has any deposit or other reason for being on the bill.

    hi,
i'm a working adult but i rent basement from my parents' (their house). for the income criteria, does anyone know if they will add my income to my parents' income to determine the household income?

my tax return is registered with the house address and doesn't specify main floor, basement, etc.

    thanks in advance.

If the basement does not have a separate meter, then you are all considered to be one household. You would have to provide info for all household members.

Seems every three months, there's an unaddressed electricity benefit mailer in the mail. One came yesterday. How much does one printing and mailing cost the Ontario taxpayers? Could an insert in all hydro bills ONCE have been more cost effective?
