Gorgeous! Hope you win!!
I found out what a sugar skull is and how they originated!
Sugar art was brought to the New World by Italian missionaries in the 17th century. The first Church mention of sugar art was from Palermo at Easter time when little sugar lambs and angels were made to adorn the side altars in the Catholic Church.Mexico, abundant in sugar production and too poor to buy fancy imported European church decorations, learned quickly from the friars how to make sugar art for their religious festivals. Clay molded sugar figures of angels, sheep and sugar skulls go back to the Colonial Period 18th century. Sugar skulls represented a departed soul, had the name written on the forehead and was placed on the home ofrenda or gravestone to honor the return of a particular spirit. Sugar skull art reflects the folk art style of big happy smiles, colorful icing and sparkly tin and glittery adornments. Sugar skulls are labor intensive and made in very small batches in the homes of sugar skull makers. These wonderful artisans are disappearing as fabricated and imported candy skulls take their place.

I won I won! We had contest for office decorating, jackolanterns and costumes and I won both decorating and costume! Gift card of my choice. I haven't found out the $ amount but i was fine just with bragging rights.
Here is the final product. My best friend/roommate was my date and he threw his costume together the night before and got just as many compliments as I did. I think we made a good team.

Thank you everyone! I had a great time both making the costume and wearing it.
Lynn my "bones" on the legs are stockings. My friends bones were cut off of a childrens' skeleton costume that I got at a thrift store and then hot glued onto an old pair of dress pants and a black t-shirt. He also wore a short black blazer I found at VV (like a matador would wear) with a rose on the lapel that matched mine. He LOVES that blazer...I haven't had the heart to tell him yet that it's womans' wear.Opening a fee-free Tangerine account using my Orange key: 43034602S1 You will receive a $50 bonus from Tangerine. Crocheted my 1st Afgan throw its 60 x 65 inches 165cm x 152 would have liked a bit larger but this is what 15 100 gram balls gave me in double crochet.

Well, I'll jump in here now that this thread has been resurrected again (I can never find it!)...this is a recent painting I did of my Mom's old wooden spools of thread: it's only my second watercolour, but it's so much fun in class!! The tablecloth was cross-stitched by both my Baba and my Mom...next tablecloth I paint will not be cross-stitched!
