Hm, interesting about Ukrainian surnames - just thinking about those in our family and friends, no double letters. I would guess it may be because the Cyrillic alphabet is phonetic, so when transposed to English letters, they wouldn't double (m)any - but that's just a guess. But it's also true that spelling of surnames did get changed sometimes when Ukrainians came to Canada and the US. But then there are German or Russian/Doukhobor names which might end in 'off' - just for example.
Hm... I guess I'm saying I don't know the answer for sure.

Natalka, our DD had a Ukrianian client who was originally from Germany, and they chatted about her being of Ukrainian descent, and he said one thing that I wasn't aware of: is it true that there are no Ukrainian surnames with double letters in them?
It's curious to me, since I was trying to find relatives using my former surname (with double letters in it) and now wonder if it had been changed coming into Canada!
Do you know anything about this surname lettering?

Oh, cool - didn't know you had a Ukr. ceremony. Yes, it's our local tradition to use wreaths made of the myrtle plant - symbol of fertility (moms start growing them when they have daughters of the 'right age', lol). I still have ours, they haven't fallen apart yet.

Natalka, your wedding video got me all misty-eyed...esp when everyone sang (sorry I don't know the name of it) that song at the end...I heard it so many times growing up...What a beautiful ceremony. And I loved that the "crowns" that were placed on your heads weren't big metal ones like we had...I kept thinking mine would go tumbling off and roll down the aisle!

Busy weekend here, however...we have our flooring installers coming over with their written estimate to re-floor the whole house, plus a roofer to also give us a written estimate, plus a couple who want me to baptize their little 3-year old.....Ah....soon I'll be able to be on here more often...like next week! LOL!

Thank you, Natalka...I haven't heard from her this morning and I don't want to phone in case she's sleeping....I had mine out many years ago, so I know what that pain feels like and what she ultimately may be facing with laproscopic surgery...Even when they're not kids anymore we still worry as if they are, don't we?
