I love all the brags although I 've said this before I still have trouble with the word "brag".
I have sensored a lot of my brags in the past because we went through a rough time with some hostility on the threads for a while. We did lose members because of all that hate going around and I miss their brags. My first brag turned into a freakin' back and forth riot and it really p.o.'d me because members started attacking each other on MY thread. That was a long time ago though and the brag section has really returned to what it should be, which is everyone posting the deals they got and the prices so that we can all benefit. You know what, maybe if I get Pepsi on sale it means nothing to one member but another member may be looking for a deal so I think even items on sale and where no coupons were used can be helpful.
We all can't have an LD in our backyard either so there's no use in feeling bad if you don't get stuff for free because without LD that rarely happens but when it does it's cool!
I know what you mean Patty - "brag" has a negative connotation, normally; we're all raised not to toot our own horns (how Canadian, LOL).
It helps to know that here we're not bragging about :hahaha:"I saved more than so and so", it's :excited:"WHEE, look how much money I saved by smart shopping strategies!".
OP - Original Poster (that'd be you!! :) )
Re: question 2 - truthfully, I think some people are just mean. I remember seeing some brags (which I LOVE reading!!) where other SC'ers were saying really nasty things, like "OMG, no wonder I can't find these anywhere!" - when they live in another freakin' province, etc. It's just jealous people, eating sour grapes.
That's how I look at it, too. In fact, I find it rather inspiring to see all the brags.
And WOW, do I ever drive hubby & the kids crazy with my "look, look! I got ALL this for just X dollars!"
That's me, the mighty hunter, braving the wilds of the grocery stores to provide for my family! LOL
I know I do sensor my brags after one of my brags went into a whole debate about how people should donate all the great deals they get. The one brag was for the yardsale I had selling some of the stuff I had gotten really good deals on and was able to pay some bills I was having a hard time paying for (like the car windshield that broke in a fluke accident). I don't brag about what I donate and since then I have not been sharing my brags because I feel looked down on.
Mostly now I just brag to my kids and a few friends.
I love reading the brag from people in my area because I can get ideas of what is available that I would not have found otherwise.
I couldnt have said that better myself
To OP, well said.
I agree with those that point out that the word "brag" has a negative connotation.
Overall though, I do enjoy reading the 'brags' and don't think of it as a negative...I simply view it for what it is; the person was able to save whatever amount of money they could by doing the best they could at combining sales, coupons, SCOPs etc. Any amount of money you can save is money in your pocket and it is with pennies that we make dollars.
Thumbs up to all of you SC, whether you post a brag or not, for learning and putting into practice all those tips/tricks that allow us to save whatever amount of money we can. Be proud of that!
deserves to go up a bit :)
I agree! And the best brags are the ones that go to a great cause!
