Thread: My camcorder deal!

I have been looking for a little camcorder for sometime. I didn't know I'd be buying one today! LOL!
I had been looking at the Flip or the little SD card camcorders, just to take little clips of my son.
I was at Costco today and they had a Panasonic SDR-SW20 camcorder (it's WATERPROOF!, dustproof and shock proof!) It was on clearance for $149.98!!!
The manager told me (and I want to believe him!) that they just dropped the price from 349.98 today! A $200 price drop! It was the last one so I snapped it up. Usually I research and read reviews like crazy before buying electronics but with Costco's return policy I figured I would take it and try it out. If it's no good or I don't like it, I have 90 days to return it.
I hope it's a good one! This thread is currently associated with: CostcoMy family currently has a 1 in 20 chance for a trip for 4 anywhere WestJet flies. Please vote for my son if you can spare a moment. https://apps.facebook.com/rfscontest...93?eid=1800024

I think you probably got a good deal. I remember in the olden days (~10 years ago) having to fork out at least $1000 for a decent camcorder.
Be sure to give it a good road test in the next 90 days. Try everything it can do and also see how easy it is to get your movies onto your computer so you can maybe do some editing and/or at least get them archived onto a DVD or whatever.
The savings you realized are probably more than enough to pay for those usual accessories and extra stuff you'll need. Congrats and have fun with your new toy!

Thanks for the replies everyone!
I bought an expensive ($800) Canon mini DV camcorder about 7 years ago. The thing didn't get much use (literally used it about 4 times in a few years) and then it started chewing tapes and needed a mainboard replacement from Canon Canada. GRRRR... It was also a REAL PAIN to get the video onto a dvd to watch on TV. So this is where my testing will be.
The Editor reviews aren't glowing for the camera, the user reviews are better (but at the orginal MSRP pricetag of $399 I think you should expect more). I don't need top quality I just want to capture some cute moments of my son, be able to youtube or easily put onto a dvd with decent quality to watch on TV. I won't be doing much editing or movie production, LOL. So I don't need top end quality. The camera I bought before was overkill with features and I never got anywhere near my money out of it.
The camera's charging right now! I'll let you know how it is!My family currently has a 1 in 20 chance for a trip for 4 anywhere WestJet flies. Please vote for my son if you can spare a moment. https://apps.facebook.com/rfscontest...93?eid=1800024

Recognizing a good deal and snapping it up there and then comes with the kind of research you do into other electronics, so it probably WAS an educated purchase because you've picked up skills along the way! Great work!
