Every time that I try to log in to MSN Messenger (the newest version) I am getting an error box that says:

"Windows Live Communications Platform has encountered a problem and needs toclose. We are sorry for the inconvenience".

I am running Windows XP with SP2 and using Internet Explorer.

I have been using regular Windows Messenger lately to provide via remote assistance. Does anyone have any advice to give about what could be wrong?

    Thank you!

Try uninstalling it and re-installing it? Sometimes that works.
I don't use Messenger anymore because it was a p.i.t.a and I got similar error messages
    Yahoo has Messenger also....

Oh trust me I tried that but the funny thing is, MSN messenger is not listed in my programs when I go to Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel. When I try to download it though, it says that I already have it.

Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger, although the same thing, are two different programs. Is it Windows Messenger that is in your control panel, instead of MSN?

    Hi Amberlab

I rarely ever use Windows Messenger and prefer to use MSN Messenger which is why this is driving me bonkers!
I don't see either one of them is listed in my control panel Add/Remove programs list. The ones that might be related that I have are Windows Live Essentials, Windows Live Safety Scanner, Windows Live Sign-in Assistant, Windows Live Sync and Windows Live Upload Tool.

Oh wait, there is something called Messenger Ink Installer but I'm not sure what that is....
