My fave is "Canada Is" by Roger Whittaker. When I was teaching elementary school, I always taught it to my students.

On the more heartfelt side, this song about respecting our veterans brings tears to my eyes -

Wow this sucks, I've never heard Canada Is can you believe it? Guess it's one of those "banned" songs here in Quebec.

i'd like to know ?.....well the OH Canada, is not a very welcome song here...
though we sang it each Fryday afternoon with the "Salut au drapeau" when i was in elementary school ....( i think it's a hint on my age here, lol )

i remember all the words for the "Salut au drapeau"

i'm pretty sure they no longer do this at school

I mean "socially banned", not by law.

I don't even think my son knows the words to O Canada. They are definately not singing anymore here. LOL

Salut au Drapeau must have been the french equivalent of "I pledge Allegiance to the flag" we did that too. I guess we are a couple of oldies but goodies, Mia.

Patty, I don't remember when/where I learned "Canada Is", but from taking French at school from Grades 7-12, we learned lots of Roger Whittaker's French songs - (I still sing some in the shower!) - Une Rose Pour Isabelle, Le Dernier Adieu, Ballade De L'Amour, Isabelle Et Caroline, and Un Elephant Sur Mon Balcon... I guess it was their attempt to have us learn more modern songs than the 'kiddie' songs our pathetic levels of French were only capable of!

first i must apologize to those who don't read french

for those who do .....hope you enjoy

here it is one of what i would call the best french song and i think this song should be teach in French course....for both Anglophones and Francophones

Aside from Justin Hines & Alex J. Robinson's, "There's No Place Like This" Ontario jingles, I like Sloan's "The Rest of My Life"
