Can you make the connection to the wireless router?

What type of wireless router are you using? Brand and model number?

    Is it a wireless N, G router?

How is it setup? What mode is it set to? (N, G, Mixed?)

What security scheme is it using? (WEP, WPA, WPA2?)

How many green bars are you getting? How far away from the router are you?

The first things I would try to do, is to update the firmware of the router if you haven't already.

I would also look to make sure you had the latest driver for your wireless adapter.

The issue may be, that because you are using Windows 2000, there might not be a better driver for your wireless adapter.

If that all checks out OK and it still drops you, try disabling security and then try it to see if it works. If it does, then try using a different security option like WPA, or WEP.
