our first winter storm is forecast to arrive:
Toronto’s brief fling with spring-like weather in January is over. On Monday, temperatures plunged below zero, and now it looks like a significant snowfall is on the way for Tuesday.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the city of Toronto and much of southern Ontario, warning of snow accumulation between five and 10 cm on Tuesday morning.
Throw in wind gusts up to 70 km/h, and it’s expected to be a messy morning commute.
CityNews meteorologist Adam Stiles projects about 4-8 cm in the Greater Toronto Area, with some pockets getting a bit more or less.
Either way, drivers should brace themselves.
“This snow is going to impact both commutes and will have us all reaching for the shovel,” Stiles said. “It will make a moderate impact as far as snowfalls are concerned here for the GTA. Traffic can get snarled with 2 cm, so drive to the conditions and take your time.”
Areas along eastern Lake Ontario are expected to be hardest hit, with accumulations up to 15 cm possible.
