SummarySignificant winter storm possible this weekend.

Current indications suggest a low pressure system will develop along the east coast of the U.S. on Friday and approach the Island Friday night. There is significant uncertainty in the exact track of this system at this time. However, most forecast guidance suggests that it will track west of the Avalon Peninsula on Saturday morning.

West of the low's track, heavy snowfall is anticipated. East of it's track, snow will transition through freezing rain to rain during the day on Saturday. Strong winds are expected for all of Newfoundland Saturday through Sunday with this system. These strong winds are likely to combine with the heavy snowfall to cause reduced visibility in blowing snow to the west of the low.

Environment Canada meteorologists will continue to monitor this situation and provide additional details as they become available. Please monitor future forecasts as warning may be required.
