SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
Issued at 05:10 Friday 06 April 2018
Active weather across Newfoundland this weekend.
Meteorologists are monitoring two weather systems which will bring a variety of conditions over the next couple of days. Persons planning travel or outdoor activities are advised to watch for updated messages, as warnings will likely be required for many areas.
The first of these will arrive on Saturday, with precipitation to begin as snow across the entire Island, before changing to rain over all but western and northern areas. The rain is expected to be heaviest over southeastern parts of the Island, in company with strong southwesterly winds. Conditions will improve Saturday night as this system moves away.
There is more uncertainty regarding the second event, but latest guidance indicates an onset of snow for most areas on Sunday afternoon or evening. The snow will likely change to rain again over southern and eastern parts of the Island, with potential for a period of freezing rain over central areas. Gusty winds will also accompany this system. Gradual improvement is expected to follow for most areas on Monday or Monday night.
