Special weather statement in effect for:

    • City of Toronto

    Strong winds today.

Strong southwesterly wind gusts of 70 to 80 km/h are expected to develop this afternoon and early this evening, with higher wind gusts likely in thunderstorms. These strong winds are associated with a cold front that will track over the area late this afternoon and early this evening.

Additionally, northwest winds gusting to 60 or 70 km/h are also expected this evening after the cold front passes. Winds will then diminish overnight.

Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.

It was a WONDERFUL summer indeed!! +11 and sunny for today

    Special Weather Statement

    Issued at 05:16 Friday 21 September 2018

Rain and strong winds expected this weekend.

An intense fall storm will pass north of Newfoundland on Saturday, bringing rain and strong winds to the Island throughout the day.

Strong southerly winds will develop over western Newfoundland early Saturday morning and spread throughout the island during the day. Winds warnings have been issued for the western and northern Newfoundland with gusts expected to reach up to 100 km/h. Over the remainder of the island, wind gusts are forecast to reach up to 80 km/h but there is the potential for these gusts to be higher, especially over exposed areas. As these winds will be much stronger than those experienced during the recent summer months, loose or lighter yard, garden or patio objects that are not secured could be blown over or tossed around.

Rain associated with this system will develop after midnight over western Newfoundland and spread to throughout the island overnight and Saturday morning. The rain will be heavy at times over western and southern regions with total rainfall amounts between 25 and 40 mm expected over southwestern Newfoundland by Saturday afternoon.

The public is advised to monitor future forecasts as additional warnings may be required.
