Special Weather Statement

Snow expected on New Year's Day.
Total snowfall: 10 to 15 cm with locally higher amounts possible.
Locations: most of Newfoundland.
Time span: overnight Tuesday night through Wednesday evening.
Remarks: Snow is expected to develop over southwestern Newfoundland Tuesday night and spread across the Island on Wednesday. This could result in poor driving conditions on New Year's Day. ** anyone from NFLD reading this post, please stay off the ponds/ice, its not safe...there have been 3 separate, fatal snowmobile accidents this week in this province, a 10 year old boy, a 36 year old man and a 39 year old woman, all going through the ice
......we need a lot more frost here before ski-dooing is safe**** Ponds in my area that would normally be frozen only have a couple of inches of ice at best (@Newfiescreech)
+ 1 for today and sunshineLast edited by KelJo; Thu, Jan 2nd, 2020 at 06:06 PM.

Special Weather Statement
Issued at 05:02 Tuesday 07 January 2020
Winter storm conditions likely Wednesday night and Thursday.
Total snowfall: 15 to 30 cm (10 to 20 cm Wednesday night, 5 to 10 cm Thursday)
Maximum wind gusts: Easterly 60 to 80 km/h (Wednesday night), north to northwesterly 80 to 120 km/h (Thursday).
Time span: Wednesday afternoon to Thursday evening.
Remarks: A low pressure system will cross southeastern Newfoundland on Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Snow will begin along the south coast on Wednesday afternoon and spread elsewhere by evening. Some areas in northeastern Newfoundland may see a brief change over to rain or drizzle overnight on Wednesday night before changing back to snow again on Thursday. Strong winds will combine with falling snow to reduce visibility in blowing snow, especially in the northeast on Thursday. Conditions will improve in the south and central by mid day on Thursday, but will continue in the west and northeast until Thursday evening.
At this time, the Great Northern Peninsula may receive the least amount of snow, with potentially less snow than mentioned above. However, a shift in the track could bring those heavier amounts further north.
