SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
Issued at 15:55 Friday 14 January 2022
Rain, strong wind, and significant snowmelt are expected, followed by a rapid freeze.
Total rainfall: 10 to 20 mm, with locally higher amounts possible.
Maximum wind gusts: southeasterly 80 to 100 km/h on Saturday and southwesterly to westerly 100 to 130 km/h Saturday night into Sunday.
Locations: northeastern and eastern Newfoundland.
Time span: overnight tonight until Sunday afternoon.
A very intense storm will cross western Newfoundland Saturday night. Rain ahead of this system will begin late tonight and continue on Saturday along with very strong southerly to southeasterly winds. Winds will shift to the west to southwest and further strengthen Saturday night as temperatures rapidly plummet below freezing with rain changing to flurries. Flurries with a chance of snow squalls and strong westerly winds will continue on Sunday.
A prolonged period of mild temperatures later today through Saturday will combine with the rainfall and strong winds to cause significant snowmelt. Localized flooding is likely.

We have another system moving in overnight! 10mm of rain and another night of 110km/hr wind gust...
