I just squeezed by, had the same situation as you, needed to spend $34 to get it. It shows you on the bottom of every receipt how close you are. Oh well, PLUS status isn't anything really anyway. I just happened to spend the money at the end so I got it, or else I wouldn't have cared.

Ugh! So now you have to spend $500 in gift cards and use them to get $500 worth of stuff to get to Optimum status this year. Sigh

Actually everyone is in the same boat to get Optimum plus for 2011 you have to collect 10,000 regular points in 2010.

It's only 5,000 points and 10,000 points when you redeem 40,000 points and 75,000 points you are missing out on.When you qualify in 2010 you are plus until December 31,2011.

are they really that strict on the threshold? a few programs like aeroplan have surprisingly granted elite/super elite status to members who have been a few hundred (perhaps even a thousand) short of the mark.

perhaps call SDM to see what they could do? but go in knowing they are under no obligation to cut any slack as 10000 really means 10000.

Sorry to hear about that.

So, always do the SDM gift card trick and you'll only have to spend $9.59 per week on average to get to, or re-achieve PLUS status by the end of this year. Pay particular attention when the little notices start appearing on your receipts. Not the end of the world, but yes, pretty annoying! We all hate to miss out on those little opportunities that are just sitting there, staring us in the face.

Made a purchase yesterday and was like where is the countdown to become a plus member, came home and googled it and realized it was per calander year. Everyone's right not a huge deal however I was wantimg to redeeming some pts for $150.00, but wanted to make sure I got the kickback, Oh well

You could also email them. Explain that you got busy during the holidays and before you knew it 2009 was over. You are kicking yourself! Point out that you earned the 400 pts as quickly as you could in the new year. You are a dedicated SDM shopper and will certainly, in the coming year, exceed the 10000 base points required for plus status through 2011.

I'm in the same boat as you I only needed 525pts for plus status and I didn't realize it until today so now I need to start all over again but that's how it goes I guess, lol....
