ya I find stuff from elf in stores once in a while, but it's not the items that I like, so I gotta buy online. I know zellers carries elf now too, but I step inside a zellers every 6 months at most.

Hey guys,
I have tried many elf products over the past 2 years and some are great, some are not so great.
Here is a small review:
ELF foundation: The colours are much darker in the bottle. The formulation is good but I would choose a colour that is much lighter than your natural one. I got the lightest colour and it was way too dark. However, it is very blendable and long lasting.
ELF pressed powder: Once again, very dark in shade. I use the medium tone as a bronzer! lol. for an over all face powder I find it drying and too heavy but to add colour it seems to be fine.
ELF Bronzers/Compact: The darker tones are nice but they are very pearly and have too much shimmer. I use the dark bronzer as an eyeshadow. The lightest one, the illuminator is very shimmery and it breaks up due to the high mica content.
ELF waterproof eyeliner: this is the black plastic one that has a marker type applicator. This eyeliner is great for fine lines, has good colour but it is NOT waterproof. Not even a little bit. I would consider it normal strength.
ELF Studio Bronzer/Blusher: this is a knock off of NARS Orgasm Blush and Laguna Bronzer. I highly recommend this as the colour pay off is great and it is long wearing. The bronzer is not shimmery and the blush has just a hint of shimmer to give you a healthy glow.
ELF Studio Eyebrow wax/powder: cant say enough about this product. it is wonderful. very long wearing, natural colour and blendable.
ELF Mattifying Pressed Powder: Contains Silica which helps to minimize pores. It does a great job but most may find that it is very light for them. It is supposed to be translucent but it does pale some people out.
ELF eyelash curler: just get this! for $1 it is the best one I have tried besides Shu Eamura.
ELF cream eyeshadow duo: The darker colours stay on better. but if you do not top this up with a powder eyeshadow it will crease horrible. they are only good for a base.
ELF white liner/eye brightener: crap. waxy, no colour and pulls at your lids. plus the built on sharpener comes off too easily.
ELF Brow Lift: this is a pencil with a brow colour and a brow bone highlighter. The brow colour is alright if you have auburn colouring and pinkish skin. i would not recommend this for olive toned skin. the highlighter is way too pink. I have used it as a base for eye shadow and really liked it for that. once again, the sharpener cap will come right off and make a mess of your make up bag.
ELF tube lip gloss: nice colours, very glossy, long wearing. the only thing is the smell. could not stand it.
ELF lip conditioner: very good, smells are nice, softens lips well.
ELF eye shadow quads: for $1 they are great. you get 4 colours that contain the highlighter, lid colour, crease colour and a contour colour. I found some of them powdery and too light however, over all, a great product.
ELF lip plumping/with gloss: for $1 a nice gift, something to throw in your purse for the night. not very much product here and the top gloss is the same for every colour they have. its smells pepperminty, which is nice.
ELF studio lip primer/plumper: the primer is ok. it will remove your natural lip colour so you can wear a nude lip better. the plumper is like snake venom. it not only burns your lip but it burns your eyes. i would not get this if you have sensitive skin. the plumper smells and tastes like cinnamon.
ELF studio eye primer/line seal: the primer is ok. but if you want a great primer, I would urge you to get Urban Decays Primer Potion. it makes even dollar store eyeshadows look like gold. this primer is ok for day wear but will crease eventually. the liner seal is more of a mixing medium for eyeshadows so that you may use the shadow as a liner. it wont be water proof and i would not use it on sensitive eyes.
ELF liquid lipstick: great colours. horrible cheap smell. not very much product.
ELF blush pans/eyeshadow pans: these seem chalky with little colour. i would not bother.
ELF brushes regular and studio: the regular (white) ones are great. for one dollar you are getting a fantastic deal. the "c" brush and blending brush is great. I think they cheap out on the blush or face brush. Now the studio line brushes are really good. you are getting more than what you pay for. very soft, professional looking, pick up colour great. the face brushes are wonderful!
As far as shipping goes, my order too forever! mind you, this was over a year ago and I have a few hundred dollars worth of product, but i was disappointed in the time it took. almost a month! since then, they are much better, but I have heard all sorts of stories.
I hope this helps! if you to hear more, just ask! I have tried almost everything. The above products are the most popular ones.
Sorry to hear that mdutka! I actually tried to code and it does work, what you saw actually meant you would have gotten the mini makeup collection! Oh well, I'm sure there will be a next time for you. ;)
See the attached image so you know what to expect.
ya if you use a code, it should say so under the subtotal as shown in picture above. Speaking of which, I forgot to check off that I DON'T want the magazine.. doh. Did you end up getting the sunscreen powder stuff?
Deal50 is still the best deal I am seeing here, if you are going to order, use that one. It's what I did. I ordered the 3 piece brush holder, it was $15... kinda pricey for elf, but with 50% off it's not horrible.
how long does it take to get your order normally? I remember last time it was like two weeks.
thanks panda, actually i did end up figuring it out eventually but then my paypal got declined and now it wont let me use the code because it says i already used it once even tho the order didnt go thru. i put in inquiry in and we will see what will happen, they have remarkably fast responses to inquiries usually. i am so adicted to this site, if i get this order thru it will be the second one tonight! i am going to have to turn my computer off so i dont spend any more!!
btw, great thread , you are on a roll with great threads right now!
mdutka - try opening up another account and maybe it will let you use the code again.
stuffedpanda - is there currently a 75% off code available? I wanted to order from makeupmasala because they had ecotools brushes too, I wanted to get the retractable kabuki so much and didnt see it anywhere in stores, it's supposed to be really good and it will throw me off getting the MAC 182 hopefully.
i wasnt logged into elf but when i tried to pay with paypal and i entered my paypal info it automatically logged me into elf, then i tried logging out (cleared my cookies) and logged into paypal using a different email address (linked to same paypal account) and it still automatically logged me into same elf account, and i cant reregister using other email address because now it has both on file. just going to see if cs can fix.
etherealone - have you used the mineral lipsticks from ELF (new shades)? I watched a review that lollopop26 did on youtube and I was hooked, I got the two that she showed.
I didnt even touch on those mineral products! I have to say, they are fabulous. The ELF eyeshadow primer for mineral eyeshadow is nice too!
I was pretty impressed with the mineral blush and foundation they offered. It wasnt as slippy or silky as Bare Minerals BUT it was pretty darn close. and for less than a fraction of that cost, they are quite lovely.
i find the mineral lipsticks really vibrant, but not drying at all. which is wonderful for me.
don't you love the MU gurus on youtube? lol. i love panacea81, EnKoreMakeup, MakeupbyRissa, MakeupbyTiffanyD, ....just some of my faves :)
oh man, I am a youtube fanatic, I sub to all those and many others. I watch makeup videos like it's tv! ;)
Haha no, didn't get the sunscreen powder yet, maybe my next order. I just love their Studio line and they are very on top of coming up with new things!
My first two orders only took 2 weeks to arrive, the next one took the full 4 weeks which I thought was mostly because it got missent to Hamilton Bermuda. My latest order from December 8th hasn't arrived yet...soon to be 4 weeks as well it looks like.
No 50% or 75% code available currently, I usually wait for those before I make a big order.
I have a mineral lipstick in Rosy Raisin, the texture is quite nice, and I don't normally like lipsticks in general. And I agree with etherealone, their mineral eyeshadow primer is real nice, and real cheap. I have the Smashbox Photo...whatever eyeshadow primer, and I like the ELF one better.
I have to agree about the eyelash curler, it works insanely! You have to beware the square eyelashes though if you press too hard. I bought it in a kit with eyeshadow, eyeliner and some other things. The eyeliner I was not impressed with, but I'm used to using my Clinique eyeliner and I'm a snob about it. The eyeshadows were okay and worth the money for a 4 colour pallette, the mascara I never tried because I still have a bottle of Clinique mascara and once you open mascara it dries up in a few months.
ELF stuff seems to find its way to Winners quite a bit too, it's a great deal there for the big kits, I've seen eye-kits and mineral foundation kits in the cosmetics section for cheeeeap.
