The their/there/they're etc. type of mistake drives me crazy since it hinders communication, as does really bad grammar. The issue is more about trying to get a point across clearly - that's why we're on message boards. And, quite frankly, I agree that some people make so little effort it is hard to understand what they are saying.
Spelling/typos is less of an issue communicating, since most of the time your brain can sort it out while hardly noticing. But at the same time, that's the easy mistake to fix.
One of my friends uses her facebook status to regularly post grammar and spelling rules.... Screamy, maybe your signature space could be used for mini lessons, as a service to the public? :P
