Winterlicious celebrates eight years with culinary events all over the city. Some of Toronto's top dining establishments offer prix fixe menus with starters, entrées and desserts. This fine-dining experience costs around $15 to $25 for lunch or $25 to $45 for dinner per person, plus taxes and gratuity. There are 150 restaurants participating this year.

Reservations are strongly recommended. The general reservation date is Thursday, January 14. American Express holders can book early with Front Of The Line on January 12 and January 13.

    Bon appetit everyone!

Here's some reviews of the "best bet" restaurants that participated in 2009 which may help you narrow the list:

And keep watching the Attractions part of the martiniboys site (http://www.martiniboys.com/Toronto/sub/Attractions.html) as they'll likely have new reviews for 2010 sooner or later.

I went to North 44 ( same guy Mark McEwan); didn't realize they had no vegetarian options and had to get the chef to cook me something separate. I doubt they will be so accommodating with fixed menus during this event.

If anyone has gone and has tips on where to go, or where not to go, please post.

Last year, we went to Sassafraz and Four/Far Niente.

Sassafraz was very nice, they renovated it after the fire. It was busy, but all restaurants are during winterlicious and it's a popular one so it was expected. There are multiple floors at this restaurants, and there is a giant waterfall and we sat near that. We got 6oz tenderloin, it was small, but the best tenderloin that I have ever had, and I've had steak at many places. The servers were very nice and prompt. I would go back for sure, but I like trying out different places.

Four was average, not worth the full price. We had reservations to Far Niente but we cancelled because we couldn't get to Toronto that night, but we had Four reservations as well and ended up going there. It turns out that the restaurants are basically joined, in the same building. Far Niente is upstairs and is classy and old-fashioned decor, while Four is like a calorie-conscious restaurant downstairs, more trendy and modern, they had a dj spinning when we were there, but ya the food was meh. I would avoid this place, Far Niente looked awesome though, don't know about the food.

Make sure you look at the menus during winterlicious for the restaurants that you are interested in, that way you will know exactly what you get, so if you don't like fish for example, and it's all fish, you may not be happy.

You can check out www.restaurantica.com, it's a great site for restaurant reviews!

I went to Four last year and was not that impressed either. The food was so-so but I was starving after and wanted to get a Big Mac (not a good sign lol)

I really like Jump, but I've never been there for a Summer/Winterlicious event, just on a regular day. I've also been trying to get reservations at Canoe for years, but I've never been able to get one!

You gotta make reservations on the very first day for the super popular places, also, *some* restaurants do not ask for your amex card number or anything over the phone, so you could call the day before and reserve.

I've always wanted to go but they had an article in the Star last year interviewing the wait staff at some of the restaurants. They were so Rude, Saying things like cheap people wearing regular clothes come in and order water instead of wine, and leave only 15% tip rather than their usual 20%+ and that they are overworked, It was suprising to hear this! (as I would be one of those cheap people lol!!)

I don't tip 15% ever... and I don't consider myself cheap at all.
