I am new to my city (Edmonton), and looking at figuring out which gas station I should lend my loyalty. I'm looking for something that jives with my commute which is mostly freeway to an industrial park. Is there a way to be general in looking for one, or should I just just pull in to whichever station whenever I feel like it?

    • Costco has the best all-around prices, but I do not have a membership (considering it). Also, I'd like to pay with my Cash-back Visa card, which they do not accept.

    • Superstore has low prices *and* gives cash for groceries.

    • Shell interests me as well, since I carry an Airmiles card. However, 1 Mile for 20$ and a second for 25$ more doesn't exactly pull me in.

    Suggestions? Strategies? Thanks!

I have no loyalty!!! I go for the cheapest gas.

We don't find too much variance in price, but we narrowed ours down to Superstore in terms of rewards back. Co-op is a very close second, though - so the choice would be about whether you want the return right away or once a year!

FYI - Shell changed their reward awhile ago - it is now 1 for first $20 spent and a second for $30 more

I buy at Costco when I can - cheaper and I get cash back on my AMEX

2nd choice is Canadian Tire - we get CDN Tire cash on our card that we then redeem in store. It is the only place I use our CDN Tire MC

If I am not near either of those (since they aren't close to me) I use Mohawk/Husky with my AMA card which contributes towards my annual membership

Last choice for me is Shell but 1 Airmile hardly seems worth it

Husky/Mohawk have higher octane gas for the same price as the competition, so you are actually getting better gas for your $$ and you get cash back towards your AMA membership.
