TORONTO, Ont. - As the summer driving season kicks off this Victoria Day, there are predictions the price of gas will remain stable throughout the summer, or even drop a bit.
The current price of gas in the GTA sits at $1.27 a litre, but Roger McKnight, a gas price analyst at En-Pro, predicts it will drop further.
"I'd say $1.24 would be a fair price for the balance of summer," McKnight said.
McKnight said there are a couple of reasons why that is expected to be the case.
He said the chaos in Europe is causing money to flow into U.S. dollars, which in turn increases the value of the greenback, thus holding the price of crude oil down.
McKnight also pointed to the U.S. presidential election this fall as another reason.
Oil prices are down about 13 per cent since the beginning of May and most analysts expect values to remain at the current level throughout the summer and into the presidential election.
