The Compassionate Cook
THE COMPASSIONATE COOK, first published in 1993, remains the definitive guide to vegan cooking. Created by PETA, the experts in animal-kind living, these easy, delicious, and healthy recipes make the vegan lifestyle delicious and satisfying. As over ten million Americans no longer eat meat, THE COMPASSIONATE COOK is now more relevant than ever. Pure vegetarianism, also known as veganism, is a diet with no animal ingredients. A vegan diet that is plant-based and high in lean protein can promote weight loss and heart health. Because of these benefits, people from all walks of life are adapting vegan principles. Recently celebrities such as Alicia Silverstone, Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres, and Kathy Freston have also helped bring veganism into the spotlight. Click here for more details!

Thank you ALL for the words !
Busy weekend for me ... canning chicken legs, about 30 lbs. worth ... Not hard work, but ties up the day !!!
Just pulling out my canning recipes for winter ... chicken soup, beef soups, stew, chili, salsa and whatever catches my eye. Thinking about canning that salmon sitting in my freezer ... never done fish before ! and as i didn't can last chicken order, lots of chicken carass stock to make and can this time round .... but that can wait til the snow falls ... warms the house!
Hoping to get some squash or pumpkin free from anyone who will take pity on me and bless me with some ! Can those babies too but later in the season because they will keep almost until February ... if we don't eat them all ... yum yum ......Last edited by kekes; Fri, Sep 23rd, 2011 at 05:16 PM.

Mamalita: An Adoption Memoir
At thirty-two, Jessica O’Dwyer experienced early menopause—she knew then that biological children weren’t in her future. But years later, after marrying her now-husband, O’Dwyer came across a picture of a baby girl on a Guatemalan adoption website and she felt in her heart that this little girl was her daughter. Mamalita: An Adoption Memoir is a riveting account of an ordinary American woman’s quest to adopt a child, even when the odds seemed stacked against her. From the beginning, O’Dwyer and her husband were forced to jump through numerous hoops in their attempts to adopt their baby girl. After a year of tireless efforts, their adoption agency abandoned them; undaunted, Jessica quit her job and moved to Antigua, where she lived for six months with her daughter, Olivia, to finalize the adoption. In Antigua, Jessica found a community of other American women who were also trying to finalize their adoptions, all struggling to figure out a complex and arbitrary system and harboring the same hope: to bring their babies home.

You Are An Ironman
As he did so masterfully in his New York Times bestseller, The Gatekeepers, Jacques Steinberg creates a compelling portrait of people obsessed with reaching a life-defining goal. In this instance, the target is an Ironman triathlon-a 2.4-mile open-water swim followed by a 112-mile bike ride, then finally a 26-mile marathon run, all of which must be completed in no more than seventeen hours. Steinberg focuses not on the professionals who live off the prize money and sponsorships but on a handful of triathletes who regard the sport as a hobby. Vividly capturing the grueling preparation, the suspense of completing each event of the triathlon, and the spectacular feats of human endurance, Steinberg plumbs the physical and emotional toll as well as the psychological payoff on the participants of the Ford Ironman Arizona 2009. His You Are an Ironman is both a riveting sports narrative and a fascinating, behind-the scenes study of what makes these athletes keep going..
