I don't think so. First of all, they can hardly keep their cars on the track when it's dry, then there's the issue of no brake lights, no wipers, and those HUGE windshields. I'd love to see what kind of wipers could actually work at race speed! And of course the added expense of the rain tires, and how many sets do you bring? Not gonna do it!
You were pulling my leg, weren't you?
Yes, I knew they had tried racing in the rain before - although I thought it was long before this pic was taken - and that's when they decided they weren't going to do it.
Nice pix feetfrown! Yes the Busch (Nationwide) have raced on rain tires but only on road courses. I don't think Cup will ever use them and it will never happen on oval especially a long track like Talladega or Daytona.
You know ff, that Top Gear episode where Jeremy runs the safety meeting was on just the other day. In all seriousness, the one person whose life I wish I could live for a day is JC. Hopefully it would be the day he's testing the BMW Z4 GT3 or Ferrari 599 GTO ;)
I finally came over.
A mistake is a mistake but to delibertely nail someone is a completely different thing. Carl was one of my favourite drivers but not after that. Bumping and jostling in traffic is one thing but to punt ( good term for this, thanks) Brad like that is dispicable. I have never seen Brad nail Carl deliberately and maliciously. In this race in question it's funny that Carl was apologising on his radio for drifting down and then later on goes on to nail Brad. Also what did Carl think was going to happen when you put someone sideways at that speed and it wasn't just a tap.
What do you need wipers for at race speed? I polish my windshields with RainX since I was having problems with my wipers and 60 kms and over unless it's a torrntial downpour the rain just slides off the windsheild. It's been a life saver a couple of times on the highway when the wipers just stopped working. Usually I didn't put the wipers on because there was no need too. it allows you to use the intermittant mode so you don't have to listen or watch the wipers going back and forth constantly.
Of course this doesn't apply to open wheel.
Give it some time feetfrown. I'm the #1 NASCAR fan in SC and I only just discovered this thread.
I beg to differ. Actually you probably are now. I only get to watch it on TV now but when I was younger (a lot younger ) I went every year to the Indy 500 and the Daytona 500 with a friend who was given a mobile home by his company whom was a big sponsor and parts supplier to the racing industry. Lately I've been a few times to the Daytona race. I went down with my camper trailer and stayed at a camp site that was 15 minutes away. They have a race package that cost about $950.00 us per person for twoand then an additional $850.00 per person. They offer a shuttle bus to and from the track about every 20 minutes, pit access to all the weeks quailfying practices and races except the 500 race itself, tickets for all races, breakfasts and a whole bunch of other goodies.
I bought a new trailer about 5 years ago and have used it only three times putting only about 900 kms total. A far cry from the three, four times a year and about 7000- 8000 kms a year I used to do. I was thinking about selling the trailer this year since I didn't use last year but now I'm thinking of maybe of starting to back down again next year when I get everything straightened out on the homefront. Cat, dog, kid's university, wife's health, work, my part time business.... I think you get the idea. This shouild be fun. We'll get to see who likes who, how they feel about other driver.....
I hope none of you get your feathers ruffled about what might be said in this forum...
;)
Opinions are just that. Nobody should get upset with that. Just like everybody see things differently because how they feel about a driver. It's like that with any sport.
