    Our 21 year old son decided to get finally finish and get his high school diploma. He is living at home and had absolutely no income for the entire year. We understand that he still has to file in order to be eligable for tax credits, but can my hisband or I claim him as a dependant?

    I don't think you can claim him unless he is under the age of 18, attending a post secondary education facility (eg: college or university) or has a disability, but I could be mistaken.

    As far as I know you can not claim him as he is over the age of 18.

    I agree with "nadiabrickon"...

    I believe you can only claim him if he falls within at least 1 of the three following categories:
    - under the age of 18;
    - attending a post secondary education facility (eg: college or university); or
    - has a disability.
